Carol Sue Brodbeck's Bio

Carol Sue Brodbeck received her B.S. degree from Bowling Green State University in Biological Sciences in 1966.  She started her career at Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Company in Detroit, assisting in the research and development of the influenza vaccine.

In 1968, she moved to the Parke-Davis labs located in Ann Arbor, Michigan where she was one of the first members of a charter computer group and helped to introduce the use of computers into research.  Over the years, she oversaw the development of many computer systems, including systems unique in the pharmaceutical research industry; rescued major projects behind schedule; served as a computer consultant to professionals located in New Jersey, United Kingdom, and Europe; and was instrumental in extending the use of computers to Clinical Research Scientists located in over two dozen countries around the world.

After retiring in 2000, Carol has been volunteering for her church and a variety of organizations.   She completed the requirements for the Michigan State University Extension Advanced Master Gardener certification in 2001.  In 2006, she was certified as a Human Behavior Consultant.  In 2011, as an accredited National Garden Club Flower Show judge.  She is currently enrolled in the National Garden Clubs’ Gardening Study, Environmental Study, and Landscape Design Study Schools.  As a free lance writer, she has had a variety of articles published, as well as having served as editor for two newsletters. 

She is a member of National/Michigan Garden Clubs (currently serving as MGC Recording Secretary), the Good Thyme Garden Club, Creative Flower Arrangers Guild (currently as their President), as well as other historical, and gardening organizations. 

She has taught classes/workshops and presented talks on a variety of topics to a wide variety audiences of all ages (4-95 years of age and of differing cultural and educational backgrounds).  Some of these groups were: Colonial Dames of the America; DAR; Ann Arbor Women’s City Club; Ann Arbor Transportation Authority; Professional Secretaries Association; American Massage Therapists Association; University of Michigan Shool of Nursing; Bowling Green State University Biological Science Master students; Ann Arbor/Saline/Ypsilanti/Livonia/Chelsea/Brighton District Libraries; Ann Arbor Public Schools; 4-H clubs; pre-school and home-schooled groups;  Civic clubs (Lion’s Club; Optimist Service Organization; AG Expo in Lansing and others in Washtenaw, Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland  counties); garden clubs throughout Washtenaw County, as well as garden clubs in Monroe, Wayne, Livingston, Jackson, Hillsdale, Ingham, and Manistee counties;  Michigan Garden Club District I and IIA District Meetings; National Garden Club Central Region Meeting; International Neighbors; The Village at St. Joe’s and other senior centers in Washtenaw, Livingston, Monroe, and Wayne Counties; churches in Washtenaw, Wayne, and Monroe Counties;  Ann Arbor and Willow Run Rec and Ed; Dearborn  and other Historical Societies; and currently teaches Lifelong Learning classes at Washtenaw Community College.
